Holidays

The calendar of all term time and holiday dates is issued at the beginning of each year. We would prefer that family holidays are not taken in term time as this can be disruptive to a child’s progress. Should parents feel it is necessary, they may apply for a holiday during term time using a form available from the school. This must be submitted as soon as possible before the proposed holiday. Permission for absence is at the discretion of the head teacher.

Absence

If your child is absent from school, a telephone call explaining the reason for absence is required on the first day – preferably between 8.30 and 9.00 a.m. If no call is received, the school will contact the parents. The governors’ annual report to parents must include information on the number of authorised and unauthorised absences.

Administering Medicines

North Yorkshire County Council’s view on the administering of medicine is that wherever practicable parents should accept such matters are their responsibility and not something they should seek to refer to the school. However, it may be necessary for your child to take medicine in the course of the school day if the prescribed treatment is to be effective. Parents wishing to transfer this responsibility to school must send written authorisation to accompany the medicine brought by the pupils. The medicine should be brought to school in a properly labelled container, which states:

  • The name and home address of the pupil;
  • The name of the medicine;
  • he dosage and the time of administration.

Infectious Diseases

The school will seek help from the Clinical Medical Officer if:-

  • There has been an outbreak of disease (especially if evident by cases of vomiting or diarrhoea) affecting a significant number of pupils in school.
  • The Head Teacher is made aware of any case of TB, Typhoid or Paratyphoid Fever.

Children should be kept at home if they have an infectious disease. Doctors usually state the period of exclusion when they examine the child. The usual diseases are likely to be Chickenpox, German Measles, Mumps, Measles, Scarlet Fever and Whooping Cough.

Certain types of skin infection also require home confinement. These are Impetigo, Ringworm of the scalp and Scabies.
